Chief Exec Progamme Notes v Barry Town Saturday Dec 7th 2024.

NADOLIG LLAWEN PAWB.

We return to Maes Tegid on the back of an historic performance on Wednesday evening which saw us become the first team ever to do the “double” over TNS during Phase 1 of the JD Cymru Premier League. Indeed it was an evening of contrasting emotions. The horrendous weather conditions made everyone want to stay at home and watch a full programme of English Premier League football in the warmth and comfort (and sure enough most people opted for that outcome). The small number of spectators who braved the conditions witnessed a thrilling encounter and a spectacular result for Bala Town. We certainly rode our luck at times but also gave as good as we got in terms of skill, effort, resolve and determination to see the result out and secure a huge 3 points towards a top 6 spot. The result was always on a knife-edge after we went ahead through a first half penalty and there was excitement throughout until the final whistle. It really is such a conundrum to try to understand why crowds do not turn up to view such a superb exhibition of the highest standard from both teams.

Please can I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Rob Beattie who sponsored the match ball v TNS. He is such a dedicated and committed supporter of our Club and it is always a delight to welcome Rob to Maes Tegid. Diolch eto Rob!!!

We now turn our attention to tonight’s evening kick off against Barry Town. Our visitors have had an excellent season on their return to the Cymru Premier and we will have to have a repeat performance if we are to build on the success of Wednesday evening. It goes without saying that the win over TNS will mean very little if we cannot back up that result this evening. Why oh why is it a 5.15 kick off on a Saturday evening! All our best laid plans for a Christmas celebration were once again ruined by this change of kick off time and we receive NO financial compensation for what promises to be another small attendance. I am definitely of the opinion that people will choose a far more comfortable Saturday evening venue than Maes Tegid in deep midwinter!

This our last home fixture before Christmas with our next one falling on New Years Eve with a 12.30pm kick off against Caernarfon – certainly a fixture which fills us all with huge anticipation and excitement. We make the tough journey next weekend for a crucial last 16 Welsh Cup tie against Caerau Ely and then travel to Aberystwyth for our Boxing Day match. It is all go but the rewards are significant and a good run of results over this festive period is something which we all look forward to. Thanks to everyone for their support. Enjoy your evening at Maes Tegid.

Diolch Nigel.
