The Lakesiders got our JD Welsh Cup campaign underway this past weekend, as we travelled to the Gladstone Playing Fields to take on Hawarden Rangers in the Second Round of the Cup.
It was a comfortable afternoon for the Town, who progressed through to the Third Round with a 6-1 victory, despite a valiant and dedicated effort from Hawarden. Adam Roscrow grabbed himself a hat-trick, with James Davies, Nathan Peate and George Newell all notching a goal each.
Davies Gets The Ball Rolling
The Town got off to a cautious start while getting to grips with the pitch, however it didn't take too long as James Davies met a Lassana Mendes cross inside the box to head home inside the first 10 minutes of the match to set the Town on their way.
Jonathan Simpson in the Hawarden goal made two superb saves to keep the score at 1-0 just minutes later, as he kept out both Paul Rutherford and Adam Roscrow's close range efforts.
On the 20 minute mark, it was two to the Town! Adam Roscrow bagged his first goal of the afternoon as he was slipped through the middle of the defence and calmly rounded the keeper to tap into an empty net to double our lead.
Peate Powers Home!
It was soon 3-0 to the Town, as Nathan Peate got on the scoresheet with a powered header from the back post, as he got latched onto a Lassana Mendes cross once more to header home for 3-0 on the 25th minute mark.
Just five minutes later and Roscrow grabs his second! Again, Lassana Mendes being the provider, as he put a ball across the edge of the area in-towards Roscrow, who caressed the ball into the bottom right hand corner to make it a 4-0 lead after just half an hour.
Hat-Trick!
It took only four minutes of the second half for Adam Roscrow to finalise his hat-trick! George Newell sent in a low cross into the box, and with his first touch; Roscrow sent his effort into towards the far corner and into the side netting to complete his hat-trick!
With around 10 minutes remaining, George Newell got himself on the scoresheet after latching on to a ball over the top of the defence, and slotted the ball with a well taken finish to grab our sixth goal of the afternoon.
There was still time for more goals, and it was the hosts who managed to claw one back. Thomas Bridges claimed the ball through the middle, and managed to go round Alex Ramsay in goal to strike into an empty net to grab a consolation goal late into the match, as the match came to its conclusion at 6-1.
